Maintaining and Tokenizing Tripadvisor's Design Systems
A rebrand for Tripadvisor’s 25th anniversary meant that the design systems needed a reboot, both in visual design and in construction.

Overview
The new branding needed to be translated to all product surfaces which made for a perfect time to tokenize the design systems. Tokens were created for all of our design specs and we began applying them to current components, molecules, and organisms.

Goals + Approach
The brand work touched every surface so there were a lot of updates for tokens and components to reflect the new look.
Edits were first made to foundational tokens—color, typography—before applying the new brand to all of the libraries. Next up were the components that offered the most brand equity—logos, bubble ratings, etc.

Team + Role
Tripadvisor maintains four separate design systems. I was responsible for maintaining the Partner Design System, and later the Web Design System. As Associate Director of Product Design, I oversaw the final migration push to get all of our Web DS documentation into Supernova.
The team worked closely with engineering to ensure design to code parity and completed the release of components in an eleven-phase approach due to the size of the design systems.
