Onboarding and Personalization for Tripadvisor Partners
Two new features that guided partners from day one through continued, high-impact action on their listing. Starter Checklist and Next Best Thing help owners best manage their online reputations.

Overview
Starter Checklist and Next Best Thing are two complementary features built for hotel and restaurant partners on Tripadvisor. Together, they form a guidance system that meets partners wherever they are. Whether they’ve just claimed their listing for the first time, or have been on the platform for years, these features advise owners on what to do next.

Goals + Approach
Our main goal was to reduce partner drop-off after listing setup and to give partners a clear, confident sense of what to do next at every stage of their journey. Many partners don’t have time to hunt for guidance and the guidance they did receive wasn’t personalized, actionable, or backed by data. Our aim was to use data to surface the most important tasks owners could complete to increase engagement.
For early-stage partners, we designed a simple checklist of five free tasks that could be completed in minutes, and displayed it prominently in the Management Center. For more established partners, a list of prioritized actions from across the Tripadvisor ecosystem surfaces the single most impactful recommendation at any given time, clearly communicating the why and the expected benefit.
The two features are designed to work in sequence: new and early-stage partners see Starter Checklist first; once they complete it, they graduate to Next Best Thing, a more advanced, personalized guidance engine.

Team + Role
This was a cross-functional effort spanning product, design, data science, and engineering. The data science model behind Next Best Thing scored and ranked potential actions to surface the highest-impact recommendation for each partner. Engineering built both features to work seamlessly within the existing Management Center, with no additional navigation required. Our staff designer, with my guidance, ensured each feature communicated the what, the why, and the expected impact with minimal partner effort.
